The M EV1 is the first LEICA or LEICA M with an electronic finder.
For the first time in over one hundred years of LEICA photography, we finally can see exactly what will be in our picture through a viewfinder! Optical finders and reflex Visoflex catastrophes were more suited to disposable cameras, never anything digital.
Optical finders have been obsolete since film. It's about time that LEICA, the inventor of the mirrorless camera in 1918, finally made a mirrorless camera., which now obsoletes everything else they've done this past 107 years.
This is an Instrument of the Immortals, so of course there is no autofocus. I have no idea why there is an LCD on the back. Of course the M EV1 has no optical rangefinder, which also went obsolete once the world went digital. Optical finders were barely good enough for film, but needed constant calibration and worked poorly with long or very fast lenses if you wanted perfect focus.
Auf Wiedersehen, hundert Jahre optische LEICA und LEICA M, ein Hoch auf die neue M!

Zeiss Ikon
Current, 476g.
Less well made than the LEICA, but a fraction of the price and weight, and easier and more fun to shoot, with a better finder. Electronic TTL.
Compared to CLE and LEICA M7. |

LEICA M6 and M6 TTL

LEICA M4-P
1980-1987, 520g.
Canadian-made mechanical LEICA. 0.72x finder with 28/90mm, 35/135mm and 50/75mm frame lines, the first LEICA to use this finder which continues to this day.

LEICA M3: The World's Best 35mm Camera
1954-1967, 610g.
Leica's first M camera, advancing the older screw-mount cameras.
The M3 has Leica's highest-magnification finder ever made (0.91x), which makes it Leica's best finder for use with for 50mm, 90mm and 135mm lenses. It also covers 35mm lenses designed for the M3.
The M3 is the greatest LEICA. It has sold more than any other LEICA to this day. The LEICA M3 introduced many of the innovations we all take for granted. The M3 was years ahead of its time, and is still a fantastic camera today.
