2024 update: Our S580 was a LEMON from the day we bought it. It seemed to spend more of its time at the dealer waiting for parts like 48V batteries and cameras that took months each to arrive than we ever spent driving it. The few days we did, it was rare that more than 24 hours would pass without new idiotic warnings popping up that our dealer was powerless to resolve, since software updates were few and far between.
The retracting door handles wouldn't pop out and the dashboard would blink on and off - or stay off. The seat belts malfunctioned the first time we put anyone in the back seat. It would swap user profiles and move the seats on us while we were driving. Occasionally it would panic phantom brake, thinking something was in front of us even though nothing was. Arrgh, don't get me started.
Of course we had numerous tire failures because its ultra-low-profile tires are unsuitable for use on real-world roads. They have such short sidewalls that even a small pothole is deeper than the thin sidewall and will cause a sidewall pinch failure leading to a huge sidewall bubble.
Thank God I still have my 2013 S550, which works flawlessly.
Heaven help whoever got stock with this car after it went to to auction. Mercedes tries, but just can't fix all its gremlins. In fact, six months after we turned it in, it's still sending us harassing emails about its battery being low — something it's been doing since we first got it! Geesh. bigger.
