People look much better with flash to light up their faces, especially when backlit like this. The Godox iT32 is a brilliant little full-featured flash which does just about everything. I use it mostly for daylight fill-flash and backlit situations. I don't use flash for low light. I use flash to put light into the shadows of people's faces or to emphasize my subjects by making them lighter. The Godox iT32 is small enough to sit atop my camera all the time so it's always ready when I need it. I never know when my light will change. With a camera with a leaf shutter and ultra-high conventional (not HSS) sync speed like the Fujifilm GFX100RF, LEICA Q3 or Fuji X100VI I can get reasonable daylight fill-flash as far away as 75 feet (23 meters) in daylight at 1/2,000. This would be out to about 25 feet (8 meters) at 1/200 sync speed. While some people agonize over what camera to buy or what lens is sharpest, far more important to picture quality is your lighting. I use my Godox iT32 to improve my lighting whenever it gets harsh. It recycles in 1.5 seconds or less and is powered by a non-replaceable Li-Ion battery that charges via USB-C in less than an hour and a half. Easy! I'd get my Godox iT32 flash at B&H, at Adorama (as Flashpoint) or at Amazon, or get it used at eBay (How to Win at eBay). I'd get my X5 hot-shoe modules at B&H, at Adorama or at Amazon, or get them used at eBay (How to Win at eBay). It comes with CTO & 1/2 CTO magnetic filters. The 1/2 CTO filter gives the flash's light a warm, cozy glow. The CTO is a much stronger effect. Technically, an orange CTO, or "Color Temperature, Orange" filter, converts the flash's daylight white balance (5,500K) to tungsten (3,200K). We use this filter when using the flash indoors for fill so we match ambient tungsten light. With our camera's white balance set to tungsten, the light from the flash fill matches the ambient light. Without this filter, the ambient background will look orange, or if the camera is set to tungsten white balance then an unfiltered flash will look blueish. The 1/2 CTO filter makes the light only half as warm as the full CTO. Use this to make the flash match warm sunset light. Without the 1/2 CTO filter at sunset the flash will again look cool and bluish in comparison. The magnetic system is so clever that we can stack the filters, or stack them upside down to keep them on the flash while not in use:

Godox iT32 Showing off Its Moves. Look Dad, I'm Big! bigger. Not only does it have all the moves, it includes magnetic filters, a pull-out diffuser and bounce card as well as a Sto-Fen style diffuser. It also has a control dial, a silly white LED "modeling light," TTL, Manual, Stroboscopic (repeating) and High-Speed Sync (HSS) exposure modes, and full 2.4 GHz radio TX & RX and S1/S2 optical slave modes. A first in modern days is its even more brilliant X5 module system. These little modules snap on and off magnetically and let you use your Godox iT32 on any brand of camera. Instead of having to buy a new flash for each brand of camera, just grab a new module for about $20. Even the exotic LEICA (X5L) module only costs $34, and there aren't many other options for flash für LEICA. Godox iT32 flash, no module. bigger. The X5 modules have their own tiny batteries which charge from the flash in not more than three hours and then stay charged, or can run for 16 hours if separated. The magnetic module mounting system is also brilliant. Each module is slightly trapezoidal in cross-section so when it's attached it's rock-solid. The only way to get it off is to pull the two pieces straight-off of each other. There is no side-to side play or slop. The only gotcha with this is that if you have the flash attached to your camera and try to lift the whole thing off a table by the flash, you just might get only the flash and leave the camera behind. Don't do this as I can imagine rare situations in which the camera might get lifted a couple of feet and then fall off back onto the floor. The modules only go on one way. If you try to attach it backwards, the clever design will repel it magnetically! Even better, the flash works just fine when removed from the X5 module! Lift the body of the Godox iT32 off the X5 module, and it magically just communicates and retains all the same features and controls off-camera! It's like having the flash on a remote cord, without the cord, and works with every camera via the X5 module. Bravo! When the flash is off the module, the module now shows its own exposure compensation and flash mode buttons to control the main Godox iT32, and the module also has a battery check button for its own tiny battery.

This little gem works great. My only whine is that the touch screen stays awake even when the flash and LCD are dark and asleep, making it easy to mess up my settings by accident. Thus I leave my screen locked and the problem goes away, until I need to hold SET for 2 seconds to unlock it to change something. Otherwise, I LOVE this little flash! Too cool is that we can just lift the iT32 off the X5 module and it magically becomes the same flash, even though no longer connected physically to anything The X5 module magically connects to your flash, and everything just works if you pull the flash off of it exactly as if it were still connected. How cool is that? The X5 module alone can trigger the iT32 as well as a V480, once you get them all talking to each other. I'll assume you can sync a zillion flashes if you have the patience. Once I did get them all talking, I was able to turn off and remove my iT32 and now my V480 was completely controlled from the X5 module, and I'll admit that I don't know if that's supposed to work this way. The screen is dim but legible in direct sunlight, and looks great in shade and darker. It doesn't go to sleep when my Fujifilm GFX100RF goes to sleep, but it does turn back on when the Fuji wakes back up. It's difficult on my sample to pull-out the diffuser or kicker card. I have to use the flat blade tool of my Swiss Army Knife. The shoe lock of the X5 doesn't lock easily, as is the case for most shoe locks. It takes some fiddling with a bid threaded ring; there isn't a perfect button as on the iT20. By default it goes to sleep after 90 seconds, and stays like that with the green ready LED blinking for 8 hours.

When you get it, pop on your X5 module and plug the flash into anything with either a USB-C to USB-C cable or USB-A to USB-C cable. The flash will charge to 100% from dead in an hour and a half. The X5 module can take 3 hours, but since it charges from the big battery in the flash, it's AOK to grab and go as soon as the flash is charged. To test the X5 battery, hold its battery icon button for several seconds until you see the red LED. Let go, and now the the number of red blinks shows the charge in 25% increments (1 blink for 25%, 4 for 100%, etc.). If you have multiple brands of cameras, just get more X5 modules. At about $20 each, I find it's easier to pop the flash on and off the module than it is to get the module on and off my cameras with its slightly clumsy locking mechanism. Feel free to leave modules on every camera and just pop the flash on whatever camera you're using today. The X5 module alone can trigger the iT32 as well as a V480, once you get them all talking to each other. Once I did get them all talking, I was able to turn off and removes my iT32 and now my V480 was completely controlled from the X5 module. I don't know if the X5 is supposed to work as a general-purpose 2.4 GHz trigger or not. To have the flash just turn on and always skip the foolish step requiring you to turn the knob and pat your head as well, swipe down from the main screen, slide down to see the menu (three lines) icon, tap the menu icon, turn the dial and select "boot up," uncheck "Unlock at bootup," and now it just turns on when you hold the power button. To stop the touch screen from changing settings unexpectedly, lock it by swiping down from the main screen and tapping the Lock icon. To unlock the screen, hold SET for 2 seconds. It stays locked even if you turn the power OFF and ON again, which is good because it saves me from having to take those same steps over and over again every time I turn it on.
FiltersThere's no easy way to stash the magnetic filters on the flash. It ought to have strong magnets elsewhere to store them when not in use, or at least a kangaroo-type a slot. You can't use the magnetic filters at the same time as the flip down diffuser, so use the included Sto-Fen style diffuser instead with a filter.

Get one, I did! It has better handling than V480 for camera top use because the V480 lacks the ability to give us direct power-on and doesn't retain the screen lock when we turn it off and on. Don't forget an X5 module for each brand of camera you shoot.
